A Preliminary Study on the Spatial Configuration of Geriatrics Hospitals According to the Waiting Space Type
|
Abstract Aging has become a significant issue in recent years, and the rapid growth in the elderly population has caused a variety of problems. One of them is a problem of medical services delivery. To solve this, the number of elderly medical welfare facilities has been increased. Nonetheless, the qualitative advancement of such facilities has not been sufficient. Significantly, few studies have been conducted that have attempted to analyze spatial configuration according to the waiting space type, despite this being a highly important factor in space usage and recognition according to the waiting space type in outpatient departments of specialized geriatrics hospitals. This study utilized J-Graph and Space Syntax in order to analyze space configuration according to the waiting space type in geriatrics hospitals. The geriatrics hospitals selected for this study were limited to hospitals opened after 2000 in Korea with more than 100 sickbeds. This study conducted quantitative analyses on space usage, accessibility, and awareness according to waiting space use in the outpatient department. The results of this study are expected to provide valid analyses in terms of providing foundational data for space planning and utilization of outpatient departments in geriatrics hospitals in the future.
